London Metropolitan University International Students

Last month the UK Border Agency took away the university's right to sponsor international students for UK visas. It said the university was not making proper checks. About 2000 students were affected.

London Metropolitan University was in the High Court on the 21 SEPTEMBER 2012 on an initial hearing of its challenge to a decision made by the UK Border Agency to revoke its license to sponsor international students on Tier 4 visas. The High Court has ruled that existing students with full immigration status should be allowed to continue their studies.

London Met is delighted to announce that the outcome of the hearing is in favor of the University and it has received permission that the case be judicially reviewed. An agreement has been reached between the parties to enable existing and new international students about to start their course with the University, to do so with the assurance that they will be able to complete their current academic year or their course, whichever is the sooner.

However, the UK Border Agency as stated that students who do not hold valid leave or do not meet their immigration criteria will not be allowed to stay. A task-force has been created to support those affected. This includes, if necessary, helping existing appropriately qualified international students to find places at other education providers where they can continue to study or, where they choose to do so, continue/complete their courses at the London Metropolitan University in academic year 2012/13.
